Dismissal, rent, maintenance and inheritance calculators for Spain

Severance and the last day to challenge a dismissal before any employment court in Galicia, rent or maintenance updates with the Spanish CPI, and each child's share of an estate under Galician law. Free, no sign-up, and your data never leaves your browser.

A worker dismissed with effect from 31 July 2026 has until 28 August to file the conciliation request if the employment court is in A Coruña, and until 31 August if it is in Vigo, where 17 August is a local holiday. Anyone who assumes August does not count, as in most Spanish civil cases, will be too late, because August is a working month for dismissals. That mistake, severance worked out wrongly and rent raised beyond what the law allows reach our office more often than they should.

So we turned both sums into calculators. They are maintained by Ana María Reza Cortiñas and Luis Jurado Cano, lawyers of the A Coruña Bar Association and partners at Perseus & RC Abogados, with the rules in force and the official 2026 and 2027 labour calendar. They are free, need no sign-up and run in your own browser.

Dismissal calculator

The dismissal calculator asks for your start date, the effective date of the dismissal and your gross annual salary including extra payments. With 30,000 euros a year and exactly ten years with the company, an unfair dismissal is 330 days’ salary, 27,123.29 euros, and an objective dismissal 200 days, 16,438.36 euros. If your contract began before 12 February 2012, it separates the time worked up to that date, paid at forty-five days per year, and applies the cap that fits your case.

The deadline is counted in working days, excluding Spanish and Galician public holidays and the local holidays of the court’s town, which may be A Coruña, Ferrol, Santiago, Lugo, Ourense, Pontevedra or Vigo. When they differ it shows two dates, the legal one and a safe one calculated without any local holiday, and it warns you if the period runs into a year whose local holidays are not yet published. Christmas works like August. In dismissal cases the days from 24 December to 6 January that are not public holidays count, and a general deadline calculator that treats them as non-working days will give you a later date than the real one.

CPI calculator for rent and maintenance

The CPI update calculator updates a rent, a child or spousal maintenance payment or any amount with the INE’s national general index and its own method. For residential leases signed on or after 26 May 2023 it also applies the IRAV cap, so a 900 euro rent updated in October 2026 rises to 922.23 euros at most, not the 938.70 the CPI would give. For maintenance it also works out, year by year, the amount due today and the arrears if it was never updated. The data is requested from the INE every time the page opens, so the latest published month is always there.

Galician forced share calculator

The Galician forced share calculator applies Galician Civil Law 2/2006, which reserves one quarter of the estate for the children instead of the two thirds of the Spanish Civil Code. It adds what the deceased owned at death and what they gave away during life, deducts their debts and divides. With 300,000 euros in assets, 20,000 in debts, 40,000 given away during life and three children, the total forced share is 80,000 euros and each child is entitled to 26,666.67. A surviving spouse who was not separated also has a life usufruct over one quarter.

Children excluded by apartación and those who renounced their share still count when dividing it, because Galician law says so even though they receive nothing, and a deceased child who left descendants counts as one line. It only applies if the deceased had Galician civil status, and when they did is explained on the Galician forced share page.

What they do not do

Neither replaces a review of your case. In a dismissal the main dispute is which salary counts, with allowances, overtime or variable pay the payslip does not show clearly, and if the dismissal is void the employer must reinstate you and pay the wages you lost instead of paying severance. For a rent or maintenance, what the lease or the judgment says about the index and the month prevails. In an estate the usual fight is over the value of the assets and of lifetime gifts. We work those figures out with the dismissal letter, the payslips or the deeds in front of us.

If your dismissal deadline is close, do not wait until the last day. You can call or WhatsApp us on +34 677 841 007, in English. We both handle dismissals, rent and maintenance, and Ana María Reza Cortiñas handles inheritance, also by video call. What comes after the calculator is on the dismissals, conciliation request and inheritance pages.

Frequently asked questions

How long do I have to challenge a dismissal in Spain?

Twenty working days from the day after the effective date of the dismissal, under article 59.3 of the Workers' Statute. Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays do not count, but August and the days from 24 December to 6 January that are not public holidays do. Filing the conciliation request stops the clock.

How much severance do I get for an unfair dismissal in 2026?

Thirty-three days' salary per year of service, up to twenty-four months' pay. With a gross salary of 30,000 euros a year and ten years with the company, that is 330 days' salary, 27,123.29 euros. If your contract started before 12 February 2012, the time worked up to that date is paid at forty-five days per year.

Why does the deadline depend on the town?

Because the local holidays deducted are those of the town where the employment court sits, not where you live. A dismissal effective on 31 July 2026 must be challenged by 28 August in A Coruña and by 31 August in Vigo, where 17 August is a local holiday.

How much can rent go up in Spain in 2026?

For residential leases signed on or after 26 May 2023, at most the INE's IRAV, which was 2.47 % in August 2026. For older leases, at most the CPI, 4.3 % in August. In both cases rent only rises if the lease provides for an update.

How much is the children's forced share in Galicia?

One quarter of the estate, calculated by adding what the deceased gave away during life and deducting their debts, and divided equally among the children. Under the Spanish Civil Code it would be two thirds. In Galicia the deceased's parents have no forced share.

What happens to the data I enter?

It stays on your device. The calculations run in your own browser, nothing you type is sent to a server or stored, and there is no sign-up or email required.

Can I wait until the deadline the calculator gives me?

We advise against it. The calculator applies the law and the official calendar, but it has not seen your dismissal letter, and a mistake in the effective date or the court changes the result. When the legal and the safe date differ, file before the safe one.
